This is an important work of queer lit and I was certainly transported to a specific place and time. I found it difficult to follow Myles’ writing. They write in a stream of consciousness, they set scenes abruptly and provide little to no exposition, and they don’t express much emotion, so the reader doesn’t really get to know how Myles feels about anything that’s happened to them ever. I know this is an intentional artistic choice but for myself, the author comes across as apathetic/detached if that makes any sense. Not in a cool way. I was entertained by the anecdotes, history lessons, and Myles’ sense of humor.
