i meant to write my personal review/reaction waaaaay back when i finished the book bc I DID IT IN ONE SITTING. now that's not "rare" BUT IT HAS BEEN FOR 2023 STEPH SO IM TAKING THE WIN. this books delves into subjects that constantly bounced around as fears in my mind growing up (i.e. being outed as queer and subsequently being kicked out by my parents (and oddly enough this was the SECOND book in a row i read about that, please also check out [b:Fifteen Hundred Miles from the Sun|55144174|Fifteen Hundred Miles from the Sun|Jonny Garza Villa|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1612262882l/55144174._SY75_.jpg|81129680] if you feel comfortable doing so))
due to these topics, i wouldn't call the book "heavy", but moreso impactful and emotional, and cathartic, to be honest. i don't have those fears now (mostly lol) and so to see myself reflected in these pages, not only my fears, but my sexualities! both in different characters, so it was wonderful to see those parts of my identity represented in different characters, and how they navigated that.
we can't forget, disability rep! i am mindful that i don't read enough about mcs with disabilities (despite having a slight one myself), and so a conscious effort was made, and even got to have a conversation with a homie about this and learn about cerebral palsy a bit more.
all in all, this books made me giggle, kick my feet, and i've got 2 pages of reactions to prove it. absolutely loved it and such a comforting read. also WILD SHIT HAPPENS that had foreshadowing that i LOVED to see.

this had really cute moments but i really didn’t like the twist of the best friend character it felt forced and unnatural

I couldn't get into the writing style. I found the descriptions to be cringey and it felt like a debut in a bad way (even though it's not the author's debut novel).

i’m so glad that this book is so focused on representation, and not just for one community.
despite this, it didn’t help the fact that i HATE the whole hidden-identity thing. i think there’s a veryyy fine line between a book having its own interesting plot and the characters essentially becoming ladybug & cat noir.
all in all, this book was a cute & easy read

This is a really good book. I like how she is emphasized to be Ace but still does all the normal relationship stuff. It can be a bit heavy handed like some YA books are prone to do, but that doesn't ruin the book.
Graphic: Ableism, Chronic illness, Emotional abuse, Homophobia, Religious bigotry, Pregnancy, Outing, and Toxic friendship
