It was ok. I found the book kept switching between engrossing to mind numbingly boring. Back and forth the whole way. I liked that it has a very unique setting and it was readable. I enjoyed the in depth culture of the people’s.

There were nice twists and turns although, it happened so much so that it became a little anticipated. The character development was good.

The politics were fun but, one of the main character’s kept pulling twists and turns out of her rear end that you were not privy to as you went along. It made it unrealistic in that sense.

I didn’t like the romance. I get it but, there was just so much of it the whole way through. You could have easily placed this in the romance section of a library.

So many people recommend Raymond E Feist but, I’m yet to see why. There hasn’t been anything outstanding imo

All in all, it was better than the first and I’ll definitely read the third and final book. It kept me reading which is the important part.

Great continuation and Mara was even more kick-ass in this one. Not much more to say but that you should really go and ready this trilogy.

The second book of this trilogy was even better than the first. I didn't feel like it was the middle book at all, which many times are only made as a "bridge" between the other two books.

In this one Mara has grown up much and is still a great main character to follow, even more so than the first book.

Once again we have an even more politic focused book, which was great to follow most of the times - some sections did drag quite a bit and made it difficult to even find it enjoyable to read about it. But the parts that were good, really made this book such a great read.

The whole plot line with Kevin was great to follow and see how Mara and him came to care for each other, even though they came from such distinct places
Kevin many times due to his different perspective to things helped Mara loads, ultimately making her succeed so much in this "game". Mara's "sacrifice" when she let Kevin go was such an unlikely outcome of their relationship, really hoping we have more than him on the next book

The main conflict continues with Minwanabi. Once more we see how Mara's differenct strategies really shine her intelligence as well as her peers, since she often asks for others council.

The whole Minwanabi business was interesting, yes, but I really liked to see the plot of the Emperor and the Warlords. Mara with her immense wit manages to knock two birds with one stone
getting rid of the Minwanabi by using their plot against them (pure genious) and create herself a spot within the court. All of her hard work was rewarded with the Servant of the Empire title, one that hasn't been awarded in hundreds of years.

In Servant of the Empire we fellow the story for many years and it's so interesting to see how Ayaki grows older until he's almost 10, and how we see Mara going from a young adult to close to 30 years I believe. Curious to see for how much longer we follow them on the next book, mainly because this book felt like such a good conlusion to the story.

The first novel in this trilogy ([b:Daughter of the Empire|589979|Daughter of the Empire (The Empire Trilogy, #1)|Raymond E. By the end of the book, she had successfully fulfilled the basic objectives of securing a solid future for House Acoma. The question became, how far could her innovation and verbal skills take her on the road to power?

The answer, unsurprisingly, is very far. This novel is once again packed with political intrigue and one-upmanship. Mara is a formidable lady, strong willed, a creative thinker, and brave enough to try unheard-of approaches to accomplishing the unthinkable.

This is a long book. My copy is almost 700 pages of very small print with narrow margins. Just when it seemed like it might be starting to bog down under the weight, a new twist would happen, or a major plot upheaval would occur and keep me turning the pages. But still, it seemed like just a tad too much detail was packed in there which is the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5. Happily, this one ties into the original Riftwar books with the inclusion of Pug/Milander and a few other characters. We’re seeing things from the Kelewan side of the Riftwar now which makes for an especially interesting story given that we already know what some of the major events are that are coming.

Despite its length, I really enjoyed this one and look forward to the final novel in the trilogy, [b:Mistress of the Empire|317504|Mistress of the Empire (The Empire Trilogy, #3)|Raymond E.
