بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

سبحان الله
I have no words except may Allah bless Ibn Qayyim (RA)

Such a beautifully written book. It gave so much insight into each aspect of salah with beautiful parables and metaphors. It made me realize that my khushū is lacking. That I truly haven’t grasped the blessing that is salah. This is a read that you don’t just read once in your life. I will come back to this again and again (inshAllah) when I feel that my heart is not longing for salah the way this book made me long for it.

“O son of Adam, I created you to worship Me, so do not play (i.e.do not be involved in idle pleasures); I guaranteed your provision in this life so do not tire yourself (i.e. seek your provision but do not make it a concern because provisions are already decreed). O son of Adam, whenever you seek Me, you shall find Me. And, whenever you find Me, you shall find everything. But, if you were to lose Me, you would lose everything. Verily, I ought to be the most beloved One to your heart.

This is why Allah, Most High, made the salāh the means through which people can be near Him, invoke Him, earn His love and enjoy His Company.”

may Allah swt make us among those who fulfil the purpose for which they have been created, ameen <3

“The secret and essence of salah lies in the inclination of the heart towards Allah alone and focusing attention on Him while praying.”

Inner Dimensions of the Prayer is an essential read for any Muslim. It delves into every aspect of the ritual prayer, explaining why we pray in the first instance, the significance behind the specific words/duas we recite, the wisdom and implications of the bodily motions (qiyam, ruku, sujood), it delves into the beauty of Surah Fatiha and explains the rationale behind the staggered nature of the five daily prayers.

This work reminded me both in title and content of Imam Ghazali’s “Inner Dimensions of Islamic Worship”, however Ghazali’s work was a tad longer as it covered all five pillars not just the ritual prayer.

I read the ebook version of this and it was a bit poorly formatted but easy to read. I would recommend to anyone wanting to enhance their salah especially if you struggle with concentration and want a deeper understanding of why we pray the way we do.

“The wisdom behind prescribing the actions and the statements of salah to be performed several times in succession during salah is because they are the sustenance of the heart and the soul without which they cannot survive.”

May Allah protect us from ghaflah and make us of those who have khushu’.
