Piper, you had so much potential. You could've grown to be a kick-ass, fierce woman that I love, but instead, your character ceased to develop after the fourth book.
If it wasn't for my love for Ash, I would've rated this a 3. Don't get me wrong, it's a wonderful book. I still love the series. But this book wasn't on par with the last one. I enjoyed the little tryst between Ash and Piper, but after their little rendezvous was interrupted, Ash became brood and cold. Where was the hard candy Ash that was hard on the outside and bursting with soft flavor on the inside? I miss that Ash.
Despite my love for Ash, and occasionally Piper, it seems as though he is not good for her, at least in this book. Piper suddenly becomes a damsel whenever Ash is around. She couldn't control her magic, she becomes timid, and she only waits for the draconians to rescue her. But when she's all by herself on earth, boy, she becomes a warrior. That's not exactly how an ideal relationship is supposed to work.
And then there's my charming Lyre. I would've loved to see more of him, but it seems like he was pushed on the back burner in this book. He's still as mysterious as ever, but that was the loose end that should've been tied. I still don't know about his past and the little secrets that he kept behind the charming, incubus facade.
Overall, because I liked the series so much, I'm willing to overlook the plot holes. I hate/like the ending. I hated it because well, I like But I'll make do with what I'm given.

my characters to have a HAE and stay together forever and ever. But at the same time, I understand that it would be too far-fetched and unhealthy if either one of them sacrifices their life and end up resenting each other in the long run.connie_a's review against another edition

What a good series finisher except the author wussed out of ending whether Ash and her sail into the sunset fine if not but would have been nice to have a happy ending...
Still it was a good paced book. we got most of the ending and answers we wanted and needed. I really enjoyed reading this series

I had some issues with the earlier installments (namely, the lack of female characters grated), but this final book really delivered. Solid ending that wrapped up the most critical loose ends.
One thing I really appreciate about this author (across the series) is knowing when the audience doesn't really need to see a full scene in detail, especially if the peak of a battle already occurred or if a fairly by-the numbers conversation is about to occur: do we really need 50 predictable pages covering it? No, we do not, and I appreciate being spared that. It can make other books drag. Another bonus is the author assumes the audience is smart enough to catch up with the world and characters with each installment; I read another YA series where fully 20 pages would be dedicated to re-explaining ALL the world building concepts. Instead, here the audience is only reminded of plot-critical events when they occur, and the author otherwise assumes the audience is smart enough to catch up.
Overall, there was a nice, fitting end to this series... unlike the CW shows I've been comparing it to.

So I finally finished the book, after a ridiculously long time (I'm going to blame it on the fact that I was listening to the Audio book, but let's be honest, my reading speed has slowed down a lot here lately.... stupid adulting, getting in the way of what I really want to do...) and it was so good. Lots of things tied up nicely, I'm glad to see that Miysis made nice with Piper and the gang (kind of? Maybe? Hopefully) I will admit, that at one point during the big battle, I had a bit of a panic attack, because for some reason I thought that my sweet smol bean Lyre had gotten himself killed. Seriously, I was going into panic mode major. Until I remembered that dear old Lyre is going to be starring in his very own spin off, so obviously he was going to be fine.
