This was an okay enough book. I had questions in the end. Like how would she see ____ if ___ wasn't ____?

Also, kinda convoluted way to see good-bye.

It just felt a little too twee...and kinda a waste of a rocking premise.

It’s a typical romcom. I don’t know why the cover and the name of the book drew me in and I was expecting something more for some reason. It was cool idea and a cute story. Very cheesy. One dimensional characters. Predictable plot.

I also noted a few possible errors that bothered me. Like in one scene a character looks at his “Rolex watch” and then a page later the same character looks at his “smart watch”. Has Rolex started making smart watches??? And how the main character paid for a breakfast of 4 at Waffle House costing LESS THAN $20?? This book really IS a fantasy

I could not wait to be done with this book. The idea of it is fun, but the execution was exhausting to endure. The story was interesting to start, but once I finished about one-third, I felt like the plot started to severely stagnate. In my opinion, chapters 13 through 27, which account for a whole third of the book, could be considerably condensed and still deliver all necessary story marks, improving the overall pace of the book as a result. Also, I predicted that Ben
Spoiler was just in a coma and that he and Florence would find their way back together in the waking world
since the premise of this novel is nearly identical to the 2005 film Just Like Heaven. Further, certain phrases and descriptions were repeated so many times that, by the end of the book, I could guess how Poston was going to set up scenes based on only the first few words of a paragraph. Additionally, no substantial bonding occurred between Florence and Ben since the entirety of their interactions totaled one week over the three-month span of the plot, so their eventual romance was unbelievable to me. Overall, I did not enjoy this read.

I give this 5 stars because it’s unique. It’s not a typical romance. It’s a fun unexpected type of romance that you don’t normally find in books. Perfect fall read. The story was tied together so well everything flowing together just right and it was a very pleasant happily ever after. No questions left unspoken for. It makes you laugh, tear up,  gasp, and smile. Would read again!

"I began to realize that love wasn't dead, but it wasn't forever, either. It was something in between, a moment in time where two people existed at the exact same moment in the exact same place in the universe."

I kept hearing fantastic things about this story, and I decided to finally give in and read it myself. The fact that the story includes ghosts also makes it a perfect Halloween read right? Either way, I definitely understand the love for this story now! The Dead Romantics is without doubt one of my romance highlights of the year, and I'm already looking forward to read more of this author. I'm not always a big fan of paranormal romance stories, but in this case it turned out to be a big hit. I simply loved how the ghost element was woven into the story, and it really took the story to the next level for me. A lot of this also has to do with its cast of characters as well; they were extremely easy to warm up to, but then again I do love a quirky character. The slowburn romance was spot on for me, although there are some more steamy scenes included towards the ending. I wasn't even bothered by those, because by then I was way too invested in the rest of the story. The Dead Romantics isn't just about a ghostly romance, as it includes a wide range of topics including family, death, bullying and all things bookish of course. There is so much to love about this story, and I can highly recommend it to anyone looking for a well written, engaging and spooky romance.
