The book covers historical context for each show so you get a better grasp on where America is in time and what makes each show so radical for it's time. Due to that, there is discussion of homophobic and transphobic bigotry due to the religious beliefs of some, as well as police violence and discussion of HIV/AIDS in the context of this book.lucylou's review

Highly recommend the audiobook version, narrated by the author! I love Baume’s YouTube channel, and this book feels like an extension of that. This book delves into how Hollywood depicted queerness on TV through the decades, and what society and lawmakers thought of queerness in those time periods. I wish there had been time spent examining the actors, writers, and others who made these queer shows possible, but I understand that this book is more about general themes and movements in media.
Moderate: Homophobia, Suicidal thoughts, Transphobia, and Lesbophobia
Minor: Death, Hate crime, Self harm, Sexual violence, and Violence

Hi Honey, I'm Homo is such a fascinating and engaging queer-lensed jaunt through the history of sitcoms. I never realized the relationship between sitcoms and public acceptance of queerness was so symbiotic, but it makes a lot of sense. I especially enjoyed hearing about earlier sitcoms, like Bewitched, whose relationship to queerness had to be veiled. And the direct quotes from actors, writers, producers, S&P members, and the episodes themselves really enriched the text. As an audiobook-specific review, I will also add that Baume has a great voice and clearly knows his stuff. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to read up on queer and/or television history.
