3.5

🥹🥺

I found the writing a little wooden, perhaps due to translation and not from the author’s original wording. But it also made me cry a lot towards the end, and I don’t think that would have happened had I not felt invested in the characters, while also feeling stronger emotions due to my own cats’ deaths (plus my family’s cancer experiences). So this is probably like a 3.5 for me for creating strong feelings but having a slightly stilted writing style.

I enjoyed the book and especially at the end I got emotionally invested in the story. It gives a bittersweet feeling that you can sometimes find in the Studio Ghibli movies as well. However, this was not necessarily a memorable read for me and I’ve given it 3.75 stars. I think the writing just did not really captivate me and the beginning was especially slow. I did really like Satoru as a character!

Though I appreciate the story and I really do like japanese cat stories I don’t see myself rereading this.

A lovely book about a stay becoming a loving pet.

The book shows the perspectives of both Saturo and Nana the cat. Especially the cat perspective was a refreshing change to read. The perspective was also greatly fleshed out, with it's own personality and quirks.

Although the ending is very predictable, it is still a massive tearjerker. Overall, a lovely, emotional and relaxing book.
