2.5 stars. I did enjoy the first 2 essays, but the rest feels like the review of related literature chapter of an undergraduate dissertation. I found the bulk of this book tedious and ultimately, overhyped. While well-written, this definitely isn't a must-read - unless, of course, you've been living under a rock.

I'm honestly not 100% sure how I feel about this book. While there are some times when Jia Tolentino shows remarkable insight, there are others where her stream-of-consciousness tends to get a little murky and I struggle to follow where she is going.

While these essays are important conversations to have, it seems like theres no nuance to anything, and the author appears to have a “I know this so i’m better than you” without offering any perspective. The essay about her experience with reality TV rubbed me the wrong way, especially as a person from PR
