This story was incredibly disjointed, lacked world building, and most momentum.

i'm a wee bit confused, but there's potential. plus there's very few things i like more than ladies writing badass ladies in comics. it pleases my heart.

Magical girls!!! At magical girl school!!! With a diverse cast!! One is Filipino, one is Muslim, one is Indian (?) and one has Autism and is non-verbal and I'm pretty sure at least one is queer, like, could this be any better???? *heart eyes*

So I really loved the character designs and art, even the diversity of the girls, but I’m a little confused by the plot.

The narrator was autistic and only communicated through text message. She would have panic attacks and it was kind of just brushed off by the other girls. They weren’t friends initially but after they all escaped detention, they seemed like a group of besties all a sudden.

I think it was too short and it didn’t have enough time to elaborate and expand the story. They all have magic and are tethered to an object/weapon, they are apparently in school to learn how to use their magic, but what else is happening?

Apparently a bunch of these other readers didn't like it, but I don't know what they're talking about. I was really into this.

It starts with our heroes at a school for magical girls where we learn that their magic is tied to/channeled through gems that are associated with the weapons they use, and then we see them transform Sailor Moon-style and have a practice battle. Later they learn suspicious shit is happening at the school and in the nearby city, and they get embroiled in it.

I really liked the characters. It felt like they did a good job at representation with the characters coming from a variety of backgrounds and personality types. Also the narrator is autistic and doesn't speak out loud but still provides panel narration and communicates in other ways, which I don't think I've seen before in a comic.

There were magical shenanigans. There were girls crushing on girls and boys. There was an adorable cockroach with rhinestone decorations and a little bow on its head. The art was fun. The story was fun.

I will say that there were a couple places where the transitions were weird, like it felt like a few panels were missing or like a label to indicate time had passed. That was a bit confusing. But it only happened twice and the rest of this was so delightful that I can easily look past it.

5/5 would recommend, hope they make more. I'm very interested in this world and these characters and want to find out what happens next.

Not giving this one a rating because I recognize that it's just not my thing, but that people whose thing it is might think it's a very good example of that thing.
