If you are looking for detailed investing advice - this is not your book. If you are looking for a book to change your mindset and relationship with money, then this is all yours! If you are a fan of TFD online, then a lot of this will be repetition, however, it's not any less valuable.

Lovely for what it is.

I was a bit surprised reading through other reviews when people criticized this book for not being detailed enough about financial strategies. For the point I am in my life, it wasn't the most "useful" but I didn't really expect it to be an in-depth guide. This book did exactly what it said on the tin--it was a very basic guide to not only finances but making the transition into adulthood and all of the changes that come along with it. It was a relatable quick read that would be great for someone looking to motivate themselves to get a handle on their finances at a young age.

Very easy book to follow, but there isn’t much new or interesting information in it. I enjoy the Financial Diet’s Instagram and YouTube content, though.

Parts of this book were actually helpful to me, as someone who isn’t super knowledgeable about finances. I’m almost embarrassed to admit that I had no idea how building credit works and how I could possibly improve my credit score. I didn’t really have a good idea of how much I should have in my emergency savings account. That info was good and helpful for me.
Some advice was just inaccessible. I can’t pay my bills, pay towards my credit card debt, have an emergency fund that contains 3 months of expenses, AND have 1000$ in my checking account after paying bills each month because my income literally doesn’t allow it.
Some advice was like a joke for someone with my income. Stuff like “learn how to cook at home instead of ordering takeout” or “learn how to fix up second hand furniture” is just a no-brainer when you’re not able to throw money around and pay your bills.

It became incredibly clear that the advice in this book is for people who earn more than I do.

This book has “girl boss” written all over it. Between references to Sex & The City characters, referring to bosses only with she/her pronouns, and the outfit investment tips (theoretically helpful but written in a way that was almost condescending and very very basic like “buy a good bag”) it was hard not to roll your eyes.

The underlying thesis of the book that financial freedom is empowering to women is....sort of true on an individual level but not the be all end all empowering feminist feat it seems to be labeled as here.

I'm a fan of TFD's blog content and YouTube videos (and Chelsea's witty and honest Twitter feed - if you're reading this, hi!) so I immediately placed a hold on this book at my local library when it was available.

I was surprised this book didn't entirely cover hard-core money topics like investments - there were chapters on food, home, career, etc.

Props to Lauren for the clean and whimsical design of the book. Chelsea's personal narrative and advice coupled with the infographics and interviews with people who know their money stuff made it an educational and entertaining read.

I can't say I walked away with an entirely new perspective on life and money, but I did jot down a few facts and quotes I wanted to remember.

TL;DR: A good, relatable book to learn the basics of being an adult.
