I really did love this book

4.75/5 ⭐️

This was a great sequel to book one. The character development and the secrets and plot twists had me LE GASPING

I honestly just loved the mist king more and more. He is just, very much yes.

The reason I really loved this book was because I got to a point I didn't want to read because I was so afraid to see what happens next. You may see that as bad but for me, it means I am so invested in the story that I cannot bear to see what happens next. I get like this a lot when I get to the last like 20% of a book and while it is frustrating, it just means im INVESTED.

Go read this series.

Brilliant

This series is quickly becoming a favorite. I love the main characters and all the side characters. The flash backs throughout book 2 gave so much world building and character backstory and insight.

The books are trending in the right direction!

I still don't love the center love story - The first book just did such a poor job setting it up. But the world and plot got more interesting. We got some different perspectives and some new couples potentially forming.

I liked the mom's death. It felt realistic that Tessa never got closure with her mom. And her mom ran off without saying goodbye to her kids?! Tessa deserved to be angry.

Also, all books should have a recap chapter at the beginning like this one! It was so helpful to get a quick synopsis of the first book to refresh my memory on the world and characters.

I appreciate that the miscommunication trope was solved quickly and not drawn out for ages.

I was enjoyably surprised by the twist revealed in this one. It brought the plot to a new depth that was unexpected, and that I appreciated.

Meh. That’s all I can really say. The series wasn’t great but it wasn’t bad either. It’s a comfortable read, predictable but nicely written. It is definitely a good series to keep on retainer if you just want something to read. I wouldn’t recommend it if you want something thought provoking or with a lot of depth, but it’s a nice auto pilot read when you’re putting off your TBR. With about 400 pages a book, it makes it a quick and manageable series without losing too much time. The final book in the series comes out this fall, so I’ll definitely finish it but I’m not gonna be rushing to snag it right away. Overall, 3.2/5 and 1/5 for spice.
