I think it was a good read, there weren’t very many twists, but the structure was decent and I like the way the characters were written. There were also sections where they would read out the jury impressions as written by the guy who reads juries and I wasn’t sure I completely understood the point of it. And while I’m sure it might look cool in print, it reads oddly when listening as an audiobook and felt like a break in continuity of chapters.
Sometimes Flynn was a bit on the nose and I think the killer in this one could’ve gotten a bit more backstory motivation maybe. There was quite a bit, but I wanted the tie up to be a bit cleaner. Some of the jumps that Eddie made in terms of figuring things out seemed a bit far-fetched that things just ‘clicked’. I will note that when I chose this book, I didn’t know it was part of a longer line of books about Eddie Flynn, so perhaps more of his con-man history that helps him come to these conclusions may have been explained earlier, as they’re only hinted to here. I would say it’s enough to make me consider reading the first one in his collection but not enough to get 4 stars from me.

An engaging mystery that switches POV between first person (Eddie Flynn, stereotypical always right with a heart of gold while everyone else is the scum of earth, loneliness epidemic man who has to stay ayaw from his loved ones because he's married to his job—a stereotypical male character that men love/love to think they are) and third person from the serial killer, where the author relished their researched knowledge of killing and disposing of bodies.
It's an audio book, the narrator doesn't switch tones or voices between POVs.

Such an interesting premise!! The killer is on the jury…

So many twists and turns in this book. All were enjoyable, even if some were unbelievable. I didn’t mind buying in because over all it was just a super fun read.

There was a lot of detailed descriptions of violence which made me squirm a bit. There were also a number of typos I noticed and the writing style is train of thought style, with short, incomplete sentences. They fit the fast pace but once in a while they seemed a little egregious.

Overall, this did remind me of an episode of Criminal Minds (one of my favorite shows) and I would definitely read more of this series!
