Okay, now I'm second guessing why I haven't read any of Alisha's books before. This was fantastic. To make it even better, it was narrated by the fabulous Caitlin Davies, one of my favorite voices in audiobooks.

Alisha's world was captivating. One human girl. The last human. Destined to be the earth queen. Whatever that means. In the meantime, Vahly is raised by and with dragons, longing for something more but without knowing what. Legends that the elves might know something of human rituals drives her to leave her home with several of her dragon companions. She meets the elves and finds much more than she's bargained for.

Not sure who she can trust, Vahly must decide how much she is willing to sacrifice and if she can be the leader that her clan believes her to be.

On a side note, totally loving that the possible love interest is an alchemist. And that Vahly's so awkwardly aware that she's crushing on the first humanoid she's ever met, so maybe that's all their is to it. He is such a sweetheart though. I ship them.

I received a free copy of the audiobook from the author because she is cool like that, which has not impacted my review in any way.

3.5 stars. Starts out a bit slow, and the world didn’t really grab me. Once things got moving along, it was more interesting, but I feel like overall it is a big set up for the next book. There’s a lot of world building that needed to happen, so that probably bogged things down a bit. I wish I felt more of an attachment to the characters, but generally, I found them kind of interesting but not terrible deep or engrossing. A good story, with potential.

I received this audiobook free in exchange for my fair and honest review.

This is a good read. I had a bit of trouble getting into the story at first, because I had trouble connecting with the main character Vahly. Once the story got going though, it didn’t let up. There’s lots of action and intrigue as Vahly strives to waken her powers as Earth Queen, to save the land kynds from the action of the sea kynd. The world building is excellent and this book is well written. Overall a very good read.

This was a fun quick ride that left me feeling a baffled as Vahly. Will definitely be back to see what happens to Vahly and Arc!

A promising story of the supposedly last human on earth who was marked as “The Earth Queen” and a fight with dragons against the sea.
Overall I enjoyed the story and plot of the first novel of this series but I felt overwhelmed and confused in places when there was a change in scenes from land to sea. There was a lot of information and some felt it was dragging. By the end I felt the need to want more of the story but I wasn’t sure if I would.
I will continue on with hopes the next novel is more promising.

Dragons, elves, Sea people and humans. Elemental magic for each group. The queen of the Lapis dragon clan helped save the last human when the sea people flooded the lands. Now Vahly has set out to find a ritual to jumpstart her Earth Queen magic. An unlikely band of rebels goes with her. Such a great story!
