This series was definitely not some of Marillier's stronger work, but still much more enjoyable and well-written than most of the half-assed YA fantasy deluging the market these days. It was a little predictable. It was easy to see what would happen - it was just a matter of how it would happen and what a beautiful journey it was! I would recommend [b:Daughter of the Forest|13928|Daughter of the Forest (Sevenwaters, #1)|Juliet Marillier|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1343589988s/13928.jpg|1897725] series or [b:Heart's Blood|6278019|Heart's Blood|Juliet Marillier|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327169281s/6278019.jpg|6461540] over this for someone new to Marillier, but the Shadowfell series is still great for any fans wanting to read more of her work.

Neryn continues her training as the Gathering approaches. She must ensure that she is ready by midsummer for the conflict. Flint is having greater difficulties keeping up appearances at court, the needs of the cause are pushing his heart to the breaking point. Everyone is tested even further when a second male caller is found and begins working with the king. The conflict truly comes to a head in this novel.

While the series could end here, I wish it would continue like the Sevenwaters trilogy. I would like to see how the story progresses through generations. I love this world and the characters in it!

I tore through this last installment of the trilogy because I couldn't bear to not know what happens. Without giving away too much, I found the ending to be so satisfying and actually cried, which rarely happens when I read fantasy. These are perfect winter books- please go read them.

A wonderful ending.

This has been such a good story. The tone was different from other books by Marillier but still so very well done. If you enjoy her writing the is a series to pick up. It’s a little slow sometimes but worth it.

I liked the lore and didn't like the romance, very similar to her other books. The female protagonist falls in love with the strong but troubled hero.

Beautiful. I loved every page of it. Neryn grew on me and has become one of my favourite book characters. I love that she wasn't silly, whiny or superficial.

She stuck to her job and did it well. Not once did she do anything dumb and her respect for everyone made me like her even more.

This third book was amazing not only because of the character developments, but because it made us see the villains as humans too.

The enforcers whom we used to hate in the first two books became our friends.

The ending disappointed me a little though. I wanted to know what happens to all the other characters as well. It was too abrupt for me (maybe because I just wanted more).

All in all, this is definitely a book I will pick up to read again.

Love this series, well written, great development. Just some editing issues regarding ages of characters. After 2 in book years the main characters still hasn't aged.
