Note: I'm going to wait to review this until I've read the Caraval books and re-read this NOT on audio. I feel like I'll appreciate the world a lot more after reading Caraval first!

Thank you to Netgalley and Hodder & Stoughton for this ARC.

This is the first Stephanie Garber book that I have read and I enjoyed it. I liked that I did not have to read the previous books in order to read this, however as I enjoyed this I might just have to go and read the Caraval series!

I liked all the characters and the world building was so gorgeously done, I was really swept into the world. The twists are turns were definitely intriguing and kept me on the edge of my seat. I am very excited for the next book. I have already pre ordered and cannot wait for it to arrive!

It took until the third act for me to actually like Evangeline. Through the majority of the book I found her remarkably unsympathetic. I hadn't read the Caraval series so I wasn't super familiar with the Fates or their stories, but I found them compelling enough I want to read theirs. The book enticed me enough by the end that I have the second one on hold to pick up.
