"They were grown, desperate men, living out Rio's macho heyday and sensing its inevitable decline."

Dark humour about death and mortality? Yes, please. Torres's writing is as snort-out-loud hilarious as it is solemn and reflective. Despite not being plot-heavy and having a cast of horrid characters, all of whom I thoroughly enjoyed despising, this was impossible to put down. Ticked all my weird boxes.
