Loved the end of this with Skye and maya and I hope this is continued as it’s definitely left open enough to do an extra book following their relationship.

Revenge against a mutual ex, a dating reality show and general chaos as producers edit stuff to always make stuff not as it seems and cause further drama it’s a really amazing book and my second read by this author and again I loved it.

Never Ever Getting Back Together is if the Batchelor met Bisexual vengeance. It was everything,

I was not expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. I highly recommend it to fans of the traditional reality dating shows. It gives all the juicy goods while also making you fall for both of our main characters.

I also listened to this as an audio arc courtesy of NetGalley/Macmillan. The narrators were everything. At this point, I will pretty much listen to anything Natalie narrates.

The title may be a reference to We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together but this is the ending to the Betty/James/Augustine love triangle we all wanted and needed.

Taylor Swift reference aside, I really enjoyed this book. It was a lighthearted, fun read about two girls on a dating show getting revenge on their ex. It wasn’t overly deep, but the witty banter and detestable MMC that definitely made the revenge deserved meant it was entertaining.

I would’ve liked a little bit more depth to the characters outside the revenge plot. I felt we learned a lot about who Maya and Skye were in their relationships but not a lot outside of that, with the exception of a couple reoccurring traits.

I also don’t think this necessarily needed to be YA, and the character could’ve been aged up a bit, but honestly I didn’t really notice this too much outside of when their ages were mentioned at the start. They felt like they could be older so this didn’t bother me too much.

I thought the romance side was cute, and I was really rooting for them to get together. Obviously, this is a YA romance so everything is very PG and closed-door, so if you’re looking for a smutty romance then this may not be the right place. If you love a bit of fluff and pining, though (like me), then you’re in for a treat.

Overall, I’d recommend this as a fun rom-com. If you’re looking for something deep, this may not be for you, but if you want cute, fluffy, easy-reading with Vigilante Sh*t vibes (can’t help with the Taylor Swift reference, Sophie Gonzales started it!) then this is for you.

I really liked the idea of the book and loved the plot hook but just found the execution boring and a little flat.

A genuinely funny and fast paced rom-com that gave me The Bachelor meets John Tucker Must Die vibes— if in the midst of plotting revenge on their cheating ex (on a dating reality show no less), the former rivals turned co-conspirators inadvertently fall for each other instead.

I started reading this on Christmas Eve and before I knew it I was two thirds of the way through and fully invested in Maya, Skye and their revenge-fuelled shenanigans against Jordy (their cheating, gaslighting and self obsessed ex.)

It’s told entirely through the POVs of Maya (who dated Jordy before his sister married a prince and made him famous) and Skye, the girl that Jordy cheated on Maya with (before promptly gaslighting Maya and making everyone believe she was a jealous ex.) And I genuinely loved how their rivalry turned relationship plays out, with each girl initially distrustful of the other but able to actually sit down, talk things out and realise they’d both been manipulated.

The conflict resolution does happen fairly quickly but I thoroughly enjoyed it—and it meant that we could truly get stuck right in to all the drama and scheming (And much like Taylor Swift herself, the drama certainly loves Maya—especially when it involves Jello shots.)

The romance aspect was beautifully written and felt really organic to the development of Maya and Skye’s budding friendship/ relationship. We don’t delve too deep into either of their backstories but I did enjoy the glimpses we do get, lifting the veil on their guarded hearts and career motivations.

Our antagonist (and main villain), Jordy is quite possibly one of the best love to hate characters; he’s a self centred, slut shaming snob who tries to play off his beliefs as well meaning advice meant to empower, but really only showcases how misogynistic and out of touch he is with the women —and the world around him.

I loved how everything wrapped up, with one of the most therapeutic and satisfying endings I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. I do however wish the epilogue was a little longer as I wanted to see more of life after the show ended.

Overall, this was a fun and entertainingly sassy story full of loveable, snarky characters and sweet revenge plots I rooted to succeed! If you love books involving romance, revenge (of the karmic variety) or reality TV drama then I definitely recommend adding this to your TBR!

Also, a massive thank you to Anna and Team BKMRK for sending me the finished copy.

Thank you to NetGalley and Wednesday Books for the eARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

Well, Sophie Gonzales has done it again. She's made me care about an admittedly pretty bland YA contemporary story full of privileged characters simply because she is THAT good of a writer and particularly because she writes bisexual teenagers VERY well.

Eighteen-year-old Maya and Skye go on a brand-new reality TV show called Second Chance Romance, supposedly to win back their ex, Jordy, who is now somewhat famous because his sister married a prince. Skye has fond memories of Jordy and actually thinks this might work. Maya is still furious at Jordy for cheating on her (with Skye, no less) and plans to reject and humiliate him on TV. Nothing goes quite the way anyone expects after Maya and Skye are forced to sleep in the same room and start bonding.

If you enjoy reality TV show stories, sapphics getting revenge on their horrible exes, and well-written bisexual teenagers on the upper end of YA, I definitely recommend this one.

I do wish some of the side characters had been more developed and that Maya and Skye had been given more distinct aesthetics. I'm really sick of how many sapphic couples are two thin feminine cis white women with different hair colors. Sophie Gonzales please write some trans and/or gender nonconforming sapphics!

Also, the premise truly makes no sense in a YA context. No second-chance romance reality dating show would ever cast people this young.

This was an absolute romp of a read. Super funny and had me laughing so much. I do this thing where I go into books knowing very little and this one surprised me! A really unique premise, loved the setting of a reality tv show. Great bisexual rep. Literally tho, the most disgusting man I’ve ever read Jordy - like you want to strangle him this entire book (that's the point tho). Taylor Swift song for this one (besides the obvious) is Vigilante Shit “picture me thick as thieves with your ex wife”

1.5/5 🌶️
