The Fifth Edition of the Player’s Handbook will please D&D fans while being accessible to newbies. Rules from previous editions are streamlined. Some of the spells and details are removed, which isn’t my favorite thing, but it’s done in the interest of clarity. It’s an improvement over the previous couple of editions, IMO. I’m a D&D evangelical, so I highly recommend that creative minds get this book, roll a d20, and start playing.

Het gedeelte voor de DM heeft me toch al heel veel bijgeleerd en ga ik ook zeker gebruiken om de volgende sessie bij te schaven. Sowieso een aanrader voor als je wilt beginnen!

This is the best RPG manual I've seen yet. It's fairly well organized and I really like how they plug their authors, though they are mostly playing on the popularity of drizzt there.

Someday I will have actually read the entirety of the PHB but calling it “currently reading” is absurd. But I’ve read the pages for druids and monks a lot!

Very nicely done! It inherits 3.5's well-organized and consistent game mechanics but streamlines some of the more complex rules in favor of a faster, more story-focused game. It also brings back the sense of wonder and strangeness from the first and second edition. Though fourth edition completely lost me -- it's the only edition I don't even own a copy of -- I actually look forward to running a fifth edition D&D game. I think they managed to pull off a very difficult task of satisfying both generations of old-school D&D players and also making a game that can lure in a new generation of roleplayers.
