brittwells's review against another edition
mysterious
fast-paced
- Plot- or character-driven? A mix
- Strong character development? It's complicated
- Loveable characters? Yes
- Diverse cast of characters? No
- Flaws of characters a main focus? No
3.5
There is some offensive language used to describe a person with down syndrome. There is also a scene where a woman is stuck in a locked home with a man who pressures her for sex, which felt really out of tone with the rest of the book and is unexpected in the cozy genre.
Moderate: Forced institutionalization and Car accident
Minor: Panic attacks/disorders and Sexual harassment

I found Trisha to be as much of a snob as Angelica which is funny because Trisha constantly highlights this as a flaw for Angelica.
While the gaslighting , minimizing of unacceptable behaviour, and dated terminology was frustrating the most disappointing trope was the incompetent, self-serving sheriff. I mean how bad are things when calling 911 is not longer an option because they just don’t respond - wtf.
The “who dunnit” how and why was interesting.
