Spectacular writing. Tara lets the reader into her life with all of its horrors and triumphs. The book opened up so many discussions with my family as we tried to process what it is like living in such a family who denies the abuser and blames the victim. My husbands final observation---because Tara was self taught up to college, she never read the books/textbooks the rest of us did growing up because of this her writing seems seems to crisp and unique---her own voice, not a copy of someone else's voice.
This is not an easy book to read but I wanted it to go on and on. I got really wrapped up in her story.

This book is fascinating from the start. To be honest, I didn’t know much about this book before I started it but I know a ton of people really loved it so I thought I’d give it a whirl and I’m so glad I did! This book gives a absolutely fascinating look into the life of the author and her family history. Her family consists of an uber-conservative Mormon father enforcing his will on every person around him by his convictions of the world outside the family. I honestly had to check to see if I was reading fiction in the middle because of some of the stories that are told! Outside of a few tiny boring spots, this book had me hooked! Recommend for everyone!
