Ce livre ne m’a dit rien. Je trouve que l’autor souffre d’un narcissisme et sentimentalisme énorme car il est incapable de voir sa mère comme quelque chose plus profonde (simplement comme un être humain) que sa mère, qui doit être une esclave pour lui. Le livre n’a pas de narration et il est très très répétitif aussi. Toutefois, il est court et il y a des parts poétiques.

This book describes the mother-son relationship in a great way that I can say that this is a masterpiece
The feelings are flowing through the pages of the book with no restrains no trying to fake something that is not there it is all real - they are all feelings that all of us experienced.
The way ALBERT COHEN wrote the book and told his version of the life of his mother, in other words, his life story is simply genius, the whole thing made me feel like I am reading my story, my mom and I as the main characters of this book.

Ik vond dit boek op de ramsj-tafel van de boekenwinkel. Als hij de originele prijs was geweest had ik me bekocht gevoeld, maar nu merk ik dat ik toch blij ben dat ik dit boek aan mijn lees-ervaring toe kan voegen. Het boek is pompeus geschreven, en door het hele boek kan ik een hekel aan de hoofdpersoon niet onderdrukken. Walchelijk hoe hij met zijn moeder omgaat, en zijn 'oude ik' vooral verdrietig is omdat hij nu haar idolatie moet missen. Gelukkig schemert ook door dat hij beseft hoeveel pijn hij haar gedaan heeft, en hoe hij veel dingen anders zou doen als hij had beseft...
Deze pompeuze en wat langdradige zinnen zou ik dus normaal niet zo snel lezen. En toch... Toch merk ik dat het boek onder mijn huid is gekropen.
