A solidly enjoyable romantic suspense novel that gets the balance between those two things just right (for my tastes anyway). The suspense is definitely the priority here and the story is enjoyably gripping, with a psychic investigator unravelling a complex mystery in a small Ozarks town. Heroine Harper is an interesting central character, but it’s the twisting plot that’s the star and Charlaine Harris does a good job of keeping you guessing. The romance was decent too!

Quick read, but not a fan. At all. Definitely won't be reading the other books in this series!

I started this book a long time ago and I didn't get far about half way I think. I put it down for some reason and I decided to pick it up and start again. I liked it. It has its quirks but it still an enjoyable read. I really like Harper I find her to be an unusual character, very different from your standard lead female ladys. I find her relationship with her Brother to be a bit odd but it works with the whole flow of the story. A great mystery though I predicted what was going to happen before it did. I am going to read the next one and see what happens with Harper and Tolliver.

Harper Connolly heads to a small town to find a dead girl (which she can do, because she was once struck by lightning), along with her brother (with whom she has a very, very mildly creepily close relationship). The small town has people in it almost as creepy as her desperate reliance on her brother, and Harper begins to regret ever finding their dead girl, particularly when she's shot at.
I enjoyed this - a light supernaturally-flavoured (mmm!) mystery, along the lines of Harris' more well popular Sookie Stackhouse series.

I liked the Southern Vampire Mysteries and was hoping this would be a similarly fun escape. Unfortunately, I found it poorly written and poorly paced. I found Harper's inner monologues especially annoying.
