Wonderful concept... poorly executed. Meh.

Really impressed with this abridged adaptation. Just a head’s up that it’s significantly shorter than the actual book. Narrrator is excellent.

I have no idea what this book was really about. There are hints of a religious subplot, as well as a "fantastic voyage", but none of these are coherent enough to make the read worthwhile.

There are good ideas hidden here. They're just not executed well enough to make this an enjoyable read.

I hate the relationship between Ali and Ike. It creeps me out, but I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to?

Incredible. I flew through this book, it was even in my dreams. I’ve never read anything quite like it! I’m not good at writing reviews but I was ensnared by this story and could hardly put it down.

Some outdated, offensive language used a couple of times. Could have done without that.

I loved this book, and have probably read it three times. I like how it takes 'supernatural' theories of hell and demons and works them into a plausible realistic story.

The first chapter of the book is the single most terrifying in all of literature. From there it turns into a Journey of the Center of the Earth with torture. Still cool, but does not keep the same pace as the first chapter.

This book is everywhere both literally and figuratively. Uneven writing and characterization. Lots of telling not showing. Frequent ham handed scenes to include something from a plot outline without giving any motivation for characters to act that way. Despite a few glimmers of interesting ideas, this book is a hot mess. It’s a shame since a firm editorial hand could have removed about 200 pages a of cruft and saved this novel.
