this might just be my favorite dystopian series after hunger games. finally a series which acknowledges the trauma its characters would face in these circumstances in a realistic way.

First can I just say that I love Vida. I have to say she is one of my favorite characters thus far in this book series.
Continuing on, the story line was thrilling and exciting, that it was so hard to put the book down. Ruby is this book is such a bad-ass, she developed so much into a strong and confident fighter. Same goes for all of the other characters that are in this book, some from the Darkest Minds and some new faces introduced, were all well-developed characters, that connecting to the characters and feeling what they were feeling was so spot on. Hands down to Alexandra Bracken.
My mind is still blown away with what happened in this book, that I cannot every think straight. I am literally holding myself back from getting into my car and driving to the nearest Barnes and Noble to go and buy In The Afterlight.

The Darkest Minds Never Fade

Never Fade is a good sequel to The Darkest Minds. It’s not a complete four star book but it’s very close to it. There’s no much to say about it. I feel it’s more like a passage book between the first and the third. It was a very fast book for me. Not because the things were hastened but because it really flew. For what concern the story, I really liked it in the complex, but I expected so much more from the ending. I found it predictable and boring in some points. Most of all, there is a thing that I don’t believe it should have happened just because it is meaningless. I mean, It’s a pretty deep thing but the contest in which it happened was so wrong. But it’s only my modest opinion.

As for the characters, in general, they were pretty flat. In the first book their personality was so much more accentuated and they were so much more developed. Now, they are less complex. It’s more like they are fixed on only one aspect of their been for all the book. For example, Liam. In the first book, he was awesome and in this one he was… flat. Maybe it’s because of what happened to him at the end of the first book but even his reaction to it was not as I had expected it be. So, I would have loved a deeper description of them.

The thing I am so so so so so disappointed is that
SpoilerZu was not in this book. I can’t believe it. I always thought that, at some point, we would have found her but it just didn't…. happen. SO SAD! I mean, it’s not like she’s my favorite character or something else but it would have been nice to see her; even just for a few chapters. It will be strange to meet her (I think/hope) in the third book. I mean, an entire book without a character (one that supposed to be pretty important) is strange. Guess I’ll have to live to see.

Those are my consideration about Never Fade. You should really read it because it’s very nice and, if it was not for these thing I said, I would have really loved it. Now, I’m very curious to know how this story ends but, sadly, In the Afterlight will have to wait until March.

“Ghosts don't haunt people--their memories do.”

The Darkest Minds: ☆☆☆

3.5 stars

My oh my. Never Fade was. for me, a little bit better than the first book. While reading I thought it was definitely way more better and interesting than book 1, but things went south a bit...

First of all, the first two/three chapters were horrible. Horrible in the sense that I had absolutely not one clue what the hell was happening. Apparently there is a 6 months time jump between book 1 and 2, thus Ruby's life had changed drastically. You have no idea how utterly confused I've been. Thankfully, my brain managed to make the dots after chapter 3 and I was able to enjoy the plot more.

After that, I really enjoyed the book. At some point, the sunspense was actually very high and I was eager to continue reading. However, after a few more chapters the plot felt ...too much. Ruby and Co. weren't able to take a deep breath and neither was I as a reader. Too much was happening, and all I wanted was just a moment peace.
Another thing that threw me off was the Liam/Ruby thing. I mean, I get they like each other. I am not denying that. However, I already thought in the Darkest Minds, that their love was very insta-lovey and sudden. So, I am not actually surprised by what happened in this book now.

The ending on the other side was better again. Finally, some secrets were revealed and the very last sentences was actually very satisfying.

All in all, Never Fade was an up and down plotwise and characterwise.
