Highly recommended read for country, culture, history I knew nothing about. French colonial story, rather than british, that was interesting. From several perspectives - the Algerian who supported the French as an income, to become an outcast Algerian, and then an outcast French person. The Algerian who supported Algeria. The family who left, and the family left behind. Great book.

C'est beau, c'est fort, un attachement au non verbal très agréable. C'est drôle aussi. D'un équilibre assez parfait. J'ai mis du temps à le lire car on me l'a prêté en grand format et que c'est pénible les grands format. J'ai emprunté le format poche et j'ai dévoré les 400 pages avec l'envie de partager chaque paragraphe à voix haute. Énorme coup de coeur

An absolutely beautiful family saga that I’m too inarticulate to even begin to describe. It has one of most gorgeous endings I have ever had the pleasure of reading.
