Louis Sachar (pronounced Sack-ler)'s wonderfully written masterpiece is a witty, hilarious novel that is an interesting take on justice, friendship, and greed. It is very unique and at the start is felt as a coming-of-age story but soon develops into a tightly plotted mystery story with loads of twists and turns. No wonder it's hailed as one of the greatest children's books ever.

This was a fantastic read. The story was fun, interesting and engaging. I really enjoyed re-reading this book. I got to rediscover the reasons why I love the book and I got to pick up on the things that I missed. The characters were amazing. My favourite is Zero. I just thought he was the loving one. I also really loved the friendship between the members of the D tent and their nicknames. The ending was amazing. I can't wait to read Small Steps to see how life after being released is for X-Ray and Armpit. The movie followed the book pretty good, although I thought the book provided more detail than the movie. Overall, an incredible read.

Reading with Maisie as part of her book challenge. So good - such a good children's book . Would recommend for 10+ as I think we attempted it before and she couldn't follow the chapters moving between characters. Very clever how it weaves it altogether at the end
