I was expecting a science-story but got confronted with specifics and a bland summary of events

An interesting text that goes through the history of thinking and practical approaches to decide what messages to send to space looking for contact with aliens. The philosophy around the issue is intriguing and the approaches taken range from insightful to simplicistic.
The actual language used in the text could be more fluid and personable but an interesting read nevertheless.

A lot of the maths went over my head but I did expect that going in haha, very fascinating and well worth a read if you're interested in all the difficult logistics of being interstellar.

Read more like a linguistic thesis than a popular science book—which is sad because there were some fascinating tidbits once I managed to decipher some of the jargon. I particularly liked the last chapter.
