3.0

This final issue of this X-Men series was somewhat underwhelming, although there were positives about it. Seth Peck may have been struggling with ideas with how to finish the series, and if it wasn’t a series ending, I may have liked the plot a bit better. First of all, I think Peck does really well at the start of this comic, with introducing the ‘Freedom Force’ 2.0. My personal favourite has to be ‘Mass’, with a really interesting ability, but the ‘Shift’ character was pretty one-dimensional and uninteresting even though he seems to be the leader of the group. I think the art was pretty decent, slightly stylised in a very popular, slightly more simplistic style used a lot in the last ten years. However, aside from not having a great X-Men team in my opinion, the majority of the book was a tiresome fight scene that lacked any real soul and there was no real purpose behind it. The writing was okay, but couldn’t really make the story very engaging in this long scene. The ending, although probably realistic, was just very anti-climactic and did not feel like a series ender at all. However, the comic book does redeem itself a bit at the end, with a genuinely interesting cliffhanger, but the ending needed more than just that. Overall, a very mediocre ending to this series, which had the potential to be a lot better, and even though had a few good ideas, was a little lacklustre throughout.
