challenging emotional funny medium-paced

4.0

This is a solid book.
Its structure is fun and witty while talking about the literal horror of living in North America as a women/trans/non-binary person (focusing on the states).
General Notes/Thoughts:
- CONTENT WARNINGS across the board. If anything even remotely shitty has happened to you or a loved one, it’s mentioned. I have tried to list as many as possible below.
- The “A Few Things I Have Learned about Illness in America” Section was SO real that I cried.
- Horror autotoxicus was fascinating to learn about.
- “A Partial Recounting of My Current Anxieties” is the perfect snapshot of ME in 2020/2021.
- I didn’t fully agree with all her takes on fight/flight responses in regard to rape culture but it was definitely food for thought!!
- Her film analysis of horror as a genre was awesome.
- I often worry when I read feminist works by white women that I will encounter TERF energy. I was OVERJOYED that there was none to be found here!

In conclusion, Anne Elizabeth Moore has reminded me of what an awful (in all senses of the word) world we live in. I am grateful.
