Not very nuanced. Every man in this book is depraved and/or evil apart from the one main character. He's only a deadbeat drunk but means well.
Still the story was entertaining enough.

This was an amazing read start to finish and I could barely put it down. I will be picking up more books by this author, including Blood and Sugar which I hadn't realised was in the same series as this one
Caro was a standout - I love when female characters manage to be strong and feminist while also staying grounded in their time/society. I loved her determination to get answers even when there were negative consequences for her. This book also offered some wider commentary about gender and class which she fit into well, as did the narratives of many if the other characters.
The mystery was gripping and I was hooked the entire time. It was complex while still making sense and not relying on insane twists (and I did love the final twist and reveal as well)!
