3.5* although this took me a little while to get into, I ended up really enjoying this. I found myself a little lost at times, due to not having read the comics explaining the events leading up to this story but once I found my feet, it was a really fun read. Ms Marvel is always a winner in my eyes, so this was no different but I'm totally new to Nova as a character and he's such a cutie?! I'm also even more excited to pick up Miles Morales' comics, after meeting his character in this. I'm looking forward to continuing with this run and I'm hoping for some more Avengers/X-Men shade because that somehow never gets boring...

Is this is a random team based on which books are popular? Sure. But it basically works, which is more than I'd expect of any book with Nova in it. Ms. Marvel is actually done pretty good here, better than I expected. Nova is not awful. Miles as Spider-Man could have had a lot more personality. With good enough writing and good enough art.

I mean they are all-new and all-different! I didn’t really have a clue to begin with because I just kind of jumped in here. The story was easy to follow, I’m really enjoying the artwork and the characters. From the blurb, I was really wondering if I’d been missing the chemistry between Captain America and Thor all along until I discovered Thor was female haha!

It felt a little cheesey and not as gritty as the graphic novels I read now like Venom, does plot a course for the new films though

I needed this in my life. I didn't know that I did, but I did. :) the Ms. Marvel fangirling was a great offset to the seriously creepy villain issues, and though I did feel like the Nova/Marvel friction felt a little forced, I found that the "teenagers saying one thing while thinking another" was done really well.

Also THOOOOOR.

I've probably said this before, but typically I find that Mark Waid is either really good or really bad, with very little middle ground. In this volume he hits that middle ground effortlessly.

There are some cool ideas here, so bonus points for that, but they are rather clumsily realized, which brings us back to square one. Some fun dialogue but only delivered in character sketches rather than fully-realized portrayals.

That second part is not too big of a deal as I'm carrying over the good bits of G. Willow Wilson's Ms. Marvel and Brian Michael Bendis' Miles Morales/Spider-man, but I don't have any such attachment to the new Nova or Captain America (neé Falcon), so that's a wash.

Similarly, when Sam Wilson discovers who the new Thor is, it's an interesting bit, but it only lasts a couple panels, undercut by the action. It's nice to see Equinox again, a character I first met back in the late 70s (or early 80s) in Marvel Team-Up, but he's just used here as a puppet, like a tough minion in a video game.

So while I don't regret having read this, I wasn't wowed by it, either. It was a nice but forgettable superhero punch-up.
