An epic of biblical proportions. If you are into angels, demons, monsters or big fights, when I say big...I mean literally BIG, then this is the series for you. We follow the story of gods angels battling to protect humanity and keep control of Providence (Heaven) against the ‘Fallen’. Led by Azreal, the fallen have captured angels and placed them under her control. It falls to the remainder of God's children to try and rescue their siblings.
I hear you saying why doesn’t God just sort it all out? Well, God has left Providence and the angels are left to fend for themselves. As Lucifer was the first angel to fall I'm sure you’ll be asking where he is too. He is, well… being Lucifer, loyal to himself and himself only.
Mark London once again supplies yet more evidence of his supreme writing abilities with this biblical epic which has hit a sweet spot with me due to my fascination with anything historically based. Mark keeps this story fresh and new whilst applying brilliantly crafted bible references and/or story elements. This way of writing keeps the comic fresh and engaging all the while staying on track with the main story line. The only thing I would’ve liked to have seen is more on the history and creation of the House of David. But they may happen in further issues and in no way took away from the story as a whole.
Mauricio Villarreal maintains the historical/biblical of the comic flowing throughout the comic with expertly crafted artwork. The angels are well...angelic. Well how I imagine Angels anyway. That being golden, illuminated with gorgeous attire and stunning wings. The fallen are dark, gritty and horrifying in the places in which horror was required. Azrael and Lucifer are magnificent in their own rights as fallen angels. They retain the beautiful attire and incredible wings, well, Lucifer’s are demonic, all the while being intertwined with the darkness and elements of the fallen.
A mesmerising and captivating entry into the world of the Knights of the Golden Sun, full of mysterious magic, raging battles and beautiful storytelling. I was most certainly following these stories closely.
