I really enjoyed reading this book. I love how the dead rest (or break out of) shelves like books. This was such a unique concept and really well done! I really liked the worldbuilding a lot. I love the different keys and doors, the narrows and the archive! The characters were also great and likeable and they all had their struggles. The plot was great as well and remained very mysterious throughout both books. Sometimes the pacing became a bit slow but it always quickly picked up again.

Overall I enjoyed it and it was really original and unique. Filled with some mysteries and filled with atmosphere. It has interesting worlds that not everyone can see and a unique way to see and view the dead and their lives.

miałam problem, żeby się w nią wkręcić ale później kompletnie przepadłam i czekałam tylko na moment, aż będę mogła po nią sięgnąć❤️

DNF for now. Some books I really can't force myself to love. Or maybe I started this particular book in a pretty bad mood? I'm not so sure, but it's VE Schwab and I believe this is a ME thing and not HER. Will pick this up again though I'm not so sure when but if I'm gonna enjoy this, I should really gonna read it all over from the start.

What can I say? I simply love Schwabs writing style.
This story was unexpected and original. I loved the characters - especially Wes and Mac have won my heart. They’re just so pure and ugh I just wanna hug them.
At the first half of the first book I struggled to fully get into the story. This quickly changed as soon as I understood the world and their characters and it then turned into a lot of fun.
I only had some minor issues throughout the series, like the motives of some of the villains weren’t quite easily comprehensible? Idk, they felt way over the top at times (not talking about Owen - that guy was just completely off his rocker).
That’s it. I really enjoyed everything else. I wish there was more of Wes and Mac.

Song for the book:
The Twist by Frightened Rabbit
This song will forever be stuck with The Dark Vault for me. While I was reading I had this song stuck in my head, singing

"I need company I need human heat
I need human heat
...
The twist is that you're just like me
You need company, you need human heat
You need human heat"

Between reading I also watched Netflix The King (which is absolutely incredible btw) so now Wes looks like Timothée Chalamet in my head.
After I violently drowned the image of those damned "spiked" hair. Because before Timothée, Wes looked like this in my head (I still think that’s what he was supposed to look like):

(Look at my updates if you wanna see the exact hairstyle I first imagined Wes wearing - it’s just that word that reminds me of first grade boys. They all had that hairstyle when I was younger.)

Reading about an insomnia driven girl also was great fun while I, myself rarely ever sleep like a healthy person. While I’m at it - it’s 6:20 a.m. and there’s a full day ahead of me so let’s squeeze in some sleep...
