Yes, this was exactly as advertised. Rip-roaring YA good time heavy on the LOST vibes with a little timey wimey Stranger Things thrown in. The ending was not as expected at all, and while I don't usually go for that kind of thing, I ate this up. Would rec to my fellow LOST lovers but not while you are sitting at a beach. 4.4

I had the book sitting on my Sora app for a while so I decided to give it a listen. The beginning of this book pulled me in so hard. I want to learn to dive so bad so badly this was super interesting for me. And I like having the scare factor, freaked me right out. Those parts made me not want to go in the ocean, swim or dive Hahaa. The story got very Lord of the Flies and I was digging it. The “visions/ dreams” were also interesting to follow until we find everything out. I’m not sure if I was sold on the ending but that’s fine. Ohh and I liked that it was told in journal entries, that was cool.

I listened to the audiobook and I found the narrator easy to listen to and she kept me interested in the story. I usually listened when I was driving to work and I hated having to stop it and go to work instead of just continuing to listen haha.

I would reccomend this to YA readers and horror/ sci-fi lovers.

I'm a big LOST fan, so I was immediately taken by the premise of this YA survival novel. It lives up to its promise, too. The story is exciting, compelling, mysterious, and suspenseful. Most of the characters are likable while remaining authentically flawed. This is Lutz's debut, but her prose is vivid and assured. I also appreciate the fact that FRACTURED TIDE is a clean read (besides violence, scenes of peril, and blood/gore) that I can hand to my 15-year-old (also a LOST fan) without reservation. I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for more from Lutz.

this was actually pretty interesting!! the writing could be a bit confusing at some points, probably to add to the mystery and strangeness of the book, but the story was solid and the characters were interesting. one thing i didn't care for though was the constant references to Sia's life before the events of the story. of course, it did fit decently well with the logic of the story, but it wasn't my tea.

Wasn't sure how this was going to end but I'm happy with the ending which is a bonus since I've had a few dud endings recently.
I am hitting the summer/beach/deserted island books hard right now! Dang!
I liked the multiple issues with this one: if the giant sea creature won't kill, starvation will. Or the time loop. Or the Lord of the Flies madness that seems to happen when isolated and hopelessness. Or just plain old drowning.
The blurb says "Stranger Things" but I felt like this was way more X-Files than anything else. Sure, there were horror elements but the main story leant to unexplained phenomena/government involvement than anything else.
The YA romance could have been eliminated. I cared about Ben without wondering if he and Sia were going to hook up. Just seemed thrown in there but it didn't detract from the overall awesomeness :)

A great read! It's got that LOST vibe without being TOO out there (you know, no polar bears in this one). Plus, the ending is a far better one than the one we got with LOST. In some ways it reminded me of the way Stephen King's IT ramps down, but I won't spoil just how. All in all, an excellent debut!

Fractured Tide is the first novel by Leslie Lutz. Billed as Lost meets Stranger Things and you have a great intro into this Young Adult story.

Sia, the main protagonist, is seventeen and forced by her mother to help her run dive charters off the coast of Florida. Forced maybe too strong a word to use as Sia has a passion for diving. In the underwater world, she loves the freedom it gives her. The thing she misses is being ‘normal’. Her mother home schools her, so she misses out on events that most teenagers take for granted, homecoming, dances and having friends.

One day though when they’re taking ten people out to dive on a newly discovered wreck, things go wrong. A diver in Sia’s party dies starting a chain of events that… well you’ll have to read to find out.

Trying not to give too many spoilers out here, but there’s a mystery to solve, a romance, family anxiety and upheaval, as well as a monster hunting them.

All in all, this is a great read for a teenager. It’s fast pace, full of excitement and danger. It doesn’t suffer from any blank spots where the action drops. The story is well thought out. I’d give it five stars except maybe the characters are a little two-dimensional. However, the plot combined with the tension the author builds up more than make up for that small point.
