Beautiful illustration and vocabulary combined create a pond experience to remember. This book helps a child learn what to love before a nature experience, or conversely, allows them to see the creativity brought to such an experience set down in a book. The vocabulary is a delight and one I would want a child to activate into their own spoken and written language.

The pictures are a little bit strange but it is a good book for storytime because it is full of action.

Not a bad concept for a kid's picture book. Kind of a circle of life/turn of the seasons as seen in a small pond. But the colors were garish, the art was blocky, the writing overly simple. And I expect more from a Caldecott Honor.

In the Small, Small Pond is a Caldecott Honor Book about all the sounds, animals, and bugs that a frog sees and hears while swimming through a small, small pond.

Caldecott books are awarded for their pictures. The pictures in the book are beautiful. All the animals, bugs, and plants look realistic. They are also very colorful, but in a realistic way. The pictures take up the whole page, there are no white spaces. The colors are also blended together very well. The water is a blend of blue and green. The plants are a blend of light green and dark green. The mud is a blend of black and brown.

Children will like this book because of the colorful, beautiful, and realistic pictures. They will also enjoy the flow, alliteration, and rhyming of the book.

A colorful beginning book about a pond. Each page has 3 to 4 words on it. We are shown the life of a pond cycle. The artwork is very colorful and bright. It’s a good mood book.

The niece rolled her eyes at this. It’s too young for her and she is tired of these young books. The words rhyme, but the nephew couldn’t read all the words. He needed help. The niece gave this 1 star and the nephew was sort of bored to and he gave this 2 stars.

I graduated high school the year this was published. That is such a strange thought.
