Such a heavy book. I really appreciate CoHo’s ability to write complex characters. Her main characters are rarely basic. And the stories always have a twist that hurts your heart.

This book didn’t take me through the emotions as much as her others have. But it was still good enough that I read it in 4 hours. The writing style seemed different. More telling than showing compared to some of her other books.

It seems crazy to me that two people who had a child together communicate so little. Like how did Brian go Beyah’s whole life having so rarely spoke to her mother?

I love how Beyah says exactly what she means. I love how CoHo wrote Samson’s character, how I was only a little suspicious of him with his secrets but was as resolute as Beyah that he is good.

“Sometimes I believe personalities are shaped more by damage than kindness.” I felt this. I also appreciate how Beyah has no true, fond memories of her childhood. It’s a very accurate piece to include for a child who has been through trauma.

I didn’t love how we went from a super bland sex scene to a jarring wake up. I wish there’d been more about the emotional connection since we go from that to him being arrested and we’re supposed to be in love with him and have faith in him as deeply as Beyah does. I just wish we were brought on that journey a little deeper. Able to connect with that emotion more.

Still good, but CoHo has better.

I would actually give this a 3.5. It was good but I do hold coho to a higher standard, and I wasn't the biggest fan of the plot twist. It was definitely not as intense as other books she's written, and I actually kind of liked that. I love all the characters, just think this could've been a little more detailed and longer at the end, felt kind of rushed.

I haven't really heard much about this book, other then the fact it's written by a famous author and it got a bit of hype when it was first released.  But OMG, I cried,  squealed and giggled the whole way through this book and I can't stress enough that everyone and I mean EVERYONE should read this book.

Meh. Not the worst thing I’ve read but entirely forgettable. The story of a hard done by young woman reconnecting with her father and his family in a rich enclave. She makes local friends and finds a love interest (typical romance trope).

Although predictable I still enjoyed this one. Not my favorite Colleen Hoover but better than it starts with us in my opinion
