okay ngl this book kinda pissed me off

the first half really dragged for me, I just couldn’t get invested. it picks up closer to the end, and around 80% of the way through, I thought my full review was going to be “if these characters could put their love lives on hold for 1 month, they could’ve figured everything out way sooner. cute story! 3.5/5”

but that ending Did Not Hit for me and honestly just really frustrated me!!! what do you mean!!! the whole book builds towards this fight and then the Second it actually starts the book ends with no resolution. and I get that there’s a sequel and that cliffhangers are a thing but it feels like I just read a lot of exposition and a lot of the characters sitting around being frustrated at their lack of answers for The Impending Doom without any payoff really at any point. there needed to be SOME resolution within this book, even if there were pieces left open for the sequel.

good pieces - I did really like elara’s storyline here. I think her ending within this book made a lot of sense and I did like her character overall.

Unfortunately it did not hit the way I wanted it too. I expected the book to be about the hero after war but it was more about stopping another war. I did enjoy Faron and Reeves dynamic though! Wish they were together more. I also loved Elara as a character but I just didn’t expect the storyline at all. I wish we could have seen the sister dynamic more!
