This had a ton of potential but in my opinion honestly just kind of fell flat. I did really enjoy pieces of this though! I’ll be reading the others in the series. I’m hoping there is more explanation of this world and powers. Definitely some good tropes hit in this one!

It felt wrong giving this 3 stars so rounded up to 4. The plot was a bit messy at times and the worldbuilding was kind of lacking at times, but the vibes!!

The banter between the FMC and MMC was off the charts good. Some real tension there for the romance and I really liked their dynamic. Overall I had hoped for more of that Peaky Blinders atmospheric writing as in the beginning but not mad about it, solid read.

Wow!
I loved everything about this. The romance, the world-building, the writing, the characters... I honestly have nothing but praise for this book.
Instant favorite!

I can’t get with books that start out with the two main characters already getting together. The writing also was choppy with little detail and small time jumps everywhere.

-bookish genius book club pick!-

Typically when I read "mafia" | expect a graphic book. But when I tell you this book is perfect in so many ways... I mean exactly that. The male MC is what we call perfect morally grey, he's broken and shatter but does what he can and what he thinks is right for all. Our Female MC is badass and trouble. She is that one person labeled in the right place at the wrong time. But together they are so uniformed.
The magic system is chef kiss for me. It 100% reminded me of Grisha and the magic we love so much.
THAT CLIFFHANGER. excuse me but who gave the author the right to break me and break me again? I thought it was honestly well planned and now i need book 2! I'm glad we picked this one.
