This started out with promise but soon all hope was lost. The story is full of clichés and if you cut them out, there wouldn't be anything left. The story and characters lack any kind of depth and everything is just skimmed over.

This was a great story, the twists and the characters really pull you in.

Quick read because the case conclusion came rather quickly. DS Wendy didn't figure things out before I did so it leaves me wondering why she's on the force in the first place. A bit disappointed by her not figuring things out and being easily led where the killer wanted her to go.

When a prostitute is found murdered, DS Wendy Knight has finally got her first murder case. As more women were murdered, Wendy not only had to capture the killer but prove to her boss that she was the woman for the job.
There were times I felt that Wendy was trying too hard to prove that she was good at her job. Being the only woman on the murder squad did add pressure to her work, but she also put pressure on herself. What didn’t help was her boss DCI Culverhouse, who came across quite chauvinistic and at the start did not respect Wendy.
I read this story in one sitting as I wanted to find out who was behind the murders. The working relationship between Knight and Culverhouse grew stronger as the case continued and I had my suspicion that Culverhouse started to respect her.
The author had a way of leading you down the wrong path by throwing in a number of red herrings. It is not often I get to the end of the book without guessing who was behind the murders, but on this occasion, I had not got a clue. This story was well plotted and everything was explained clearly and in detail.
I will continue with this series as I want to see how their relationship develops. A good thriller

Having not long read another of this authors books which I really enjoyed I thought I would try this one.

Too Close For Comfort is the first book in the Knight & Culverhouse series. At 144 pages on the kindle, it felt more like a novella than an actual novel.

The storyline of murdered prostitutes is one that had my interest and I wanted to know as much as the police who was behind the murders.

Knight and Culverhouse have quite a strange relationship. I couldn't quite work out if they really liked each other or not but think all will become clear the further into the series we get.

Over all Too Close For Comfort is a quick and enjoyable read. I do have to admit to struggling with a few things in the story, like Wendy and Robert's relationship and who the murderer is, it just didn't quite work for me. This is just my opinion of course and I would certainly still recommend this to others as well as read more by the author.

This was a lot shorter than I realised, and I read it over the course of an evening. Personally I didn't like either of the main characters Culverhouse wasnt very well developed and there were just a few mentions of another side to his character, and I just didn't like Knight. The book finished very quickly and I think this could have been added too and dealt with a little better. I'm undecided whether I would read another in the series, although this is probably more o do with the fact I disliked the main characters that the writing itself.

I quite enjoyed this book although it's closer to a novella than a novel. Not a bad start to a series though. I found Culverhouse a little unbelievable in places with his dated language (prossies for prostitutes etc) and his lack of knowledge for forensics and police work (how does he not know you can tell if a perpetrator is right or left handed from their knife strokes). He seems to run either hot or cold with nothing in between.
I'd worked out the villain long before reaching the end. The story did seem quite rushed at the end.

I'll certainly give the 2nd book in the series a chance and see where it goes, how the characters develop etc.

I got this as a free book from Amazon and was quite pleased not to find the usual typos, grammatical errors, missing/extra words and general editing cock-ups that so many of those free, first reads always seem to contain. I am writing this honest review voluntarily.
