I am always going to love a book that has the emotional intensity of Elena Ferrante mixed in with hard fantasy. It gives the novel as a whole a slightly unhinged vibe, that frankly I am here for. It's a brilliant metaphor of when you lose yourself in grief, but that even itself gets a little trapped in the fantasy trappings of the piece, but for me it worked - because it reflected Taryn as a whole. The writing was dense and juicy, so it just immersed me quickly.

Sadly, very long and very boring. The editor must have been on vacation. This book was trying to be horror, with demon possession, fantasy with fairy creatures from various mythologies and romance with an angsty protagonist. The chapter called Two Graves was 40 pages of tire rolling. Just a bunch of good ideas tossed together into a fiction salad. Still a 3-star read, because what was good (the character Shift) was very interesting.

I loved it until the last 100 pages, and then it all fell apart. The last chapter and epilogue specifically did not sit well with me and I feel like the whole story was wasted with the ending that arguably didn't have much to do with the main plot and left a lot of questions and plot lines open and unanswered.
