Funny, if slightly less than I had remembered. Occasionally feels too contrived in its quirkiness, but when it works it really works. Kept me going on a train ride anyway.

I'm not sure how to review this book. If your a fan of awkward comedy and love film then you will probably enjoy this as this has the current king of awkward comedy interviewing himself on his love of film.

I personally enjoyed this but wouldn't recommend this to anyone as it's very much a either love or hate it kinda book.

Richard is one of my all time fav comedians and his comedy really speaks to me as I'm another awkward human.

I devoured this book and probably looked like a mad woman on my break at lunch! This is definitely for fans of Ayoade, especially those who are fond of his chat-show interviews/panel shows.

Despite this being a reread many years later than the initial, I forgot how funny it is (I implore you to read it in Ayoade's voice and pacing) where I literally laughed out loud many times.

Personally, in other books, I tend to avoid reading the footnotes, if provided, and don't feel like I have missed much if I have done so. In this case, the footnotes are a must!!

One recommendation is to read the book as Ayoade intended, by using the appendix as prompted. - I found most of these passages a bit repetitive when it comes to the jokes (which are funny, but I don't think some needed the added appendix article to further it). Doing so throughout means breaking these up and feels more well paced.

Is this actually a five star read? Probably not. Has this book made me laugh out loud more than any other book I’ve ever read? 100% - 5 stars due to pure enjoyment

Christ. Can't count this in my goodreads challenge for 2020, because halfways through I have to abandon. Ayoade is one of my favourite comedians and I so wanted to love this. He said himself in the opening chapter "I don't know if this will work as an audiobook, due to the sheer amount of footnotes" (or something to that effect).
It doesn't. The appendices were just mammoth. It consists of him interviewing himself in character... I maybe laughed once, at best I zoned out and at worst found it actively grating. Life is too short to finish books you're not enjoying.
