Aghhhh I wanted to love this more than I did — the first half was excellent but the last half was messy, things felt unresolved and the plot jumped structure and timeline in a way that got confusing — and I say this as a big fan of intergenerational time jump/perspective jump literary fiction 

But some gorgeously beautiful stuff in the first half and this book definitely makes me want to read more magical realism :-)

This was such a strange experience because in the first third of the book, it even crossed my mind that maybe this could be a five star read for me. But it made me feel really gross at the end. The pacing was also so weird and I did not like the twists and turns it took.

This is probably not the book for you if you are any sort of vegetarian/pescetarian/vegan. There is also a part of this book that is incredibly disturbing if you are a dog lover.
