A story about how, in the future, technology will make communism feasible. Story jumps around a little bit, but otherwise it's fairly easy to read.

The best part of this for me was that Hubert Etc. is voiced by Wil Wheaton in the audiobook I listened to. My connection to Wil influenced my connection to Etc, without a doubt.
Read this because a podcast said it is an "essential solarpunk" novel. I gotta disagree. There are so many characters bouncing around trying to be revolutionary that you actually get very little from the majority of them. Its a book trying to do too much, and not fleshing out most of it. We get too much information on the tech and hardly anything on how the tech is preserving and nature.
Feels way more cyberpunk dystopia than solarpunk utopia, not what I was looking for with this read and I'm blaming the book for not being more flexible with my expectations. It's easy to do because the writing was hollow.

Full of fun concepts–the idea of forking society by voting with your feet is especially interesting to think through, but the book meanders in a way that seems repetitive and long at times. I probably would have had the same fun and taken away the same message if it ended halfway.

Interesting, and one of my first forays into an explicitly “political” piece of science fiction. I enjoyed it although I think it is very slow paced, and often resorts to shock “oh no someone is coming” to move the plot along. Memorable but not extraordinary.

Received free from Tor eBook of the Month Club. Which is good that it was free. I wanted to walkaway from the book at several points, but there was enough in the book that made me want to continue on. The fact it didn't grab me is probably the main reason it took so long for me to finish reading.
