I’ve had this series on my bookshelf for so long, ever since I saw @princesschapters rave about them, and finally got round to listening to book number one 🙌🏽

This was a completely flawless crime novel: atmospheric, pacy and dark, with an intense + unique plot, authentic and raw characters with interesting backstories, and well-written crimes. Nordic noir is definitely a personal favourite in the crime sub-genre department: the macabre, gritty mood makes for stunning police procedural novels, and this one was no different. 

There were a LOT of characters to get used to, but this allowed for lots of red herrings and doubt to be placed, and the audio definitely allowed me to get to grips with everyone. I absolutely LOVED Munch and Kruger, both as people and as detectives, and the connection between them. 

My only complaint would be the plot wrapped up a bit too quickly for my liking, but.. I know I have the second + third book to enjoy, so I can’t complain too much! Laura Paton narrated the audio version absolutely brilliantly and the tension was palpable and authentic. I’d highly recommend the audio versions! 

Do check cw’s for this one— the murders are descriptive (to be expected in this genre) but there’s a LOT of graphic hanging scenes, so be aware if this is something that also affects you.🫶🏽
