I had a difficult time getting through the patriarchal structure the world laid out. It quickly became tedious to me.

The casual racism and colonial messaging was the reason i stopped reading. I'm not looking for a prefect character but i hated the casual racism and imperial world view. Hated it violently. Such a major let down.

This was a slow start but by the end, I came to enjoy it. I really loved the focus on a scholarly woman who's ahead of her time. As such, her personality as being extremely logical with a lack of awareness (or even interest) in social situations was perfect for the role.
