Lmao I'm sorry but I'd rather eat cow manure than read this train wreck of a book again

Despite having a title that made me giggle and cringe at the same time, the title beautifully depicts how twenty three year of Cass, living a horribly harsh life in a step slightly above squalor, has her life changed when she meets Tucker White and he sees beyond where she lives and works to the beautiful girl that lurks inside.

Cass lives a horrible life. She lives in a crappy trailer with her drug addict mother and her abusive, dealer/user boyfriend. She does what she needs to in order to scrap by for all three of them because she's determined to be there for both of them...something no one has ever done for her. She's lost her hope and she's beaten down by everything, which is just downright depressing. Everything that surrounds Cass reminds her that no one is really there for her, except herself. She stays where she is in hopes that the mother she remembers from before everything fell apart will somehow reappear. She's desperate to grasp onto any shred of goodness in either of her mother or her loser boyfriend, Jax, just to give herself a reason for doing what she does. One the one hand, I was in awe of what Cass was doing, because I'm pretty sure I would have given up eons ago. But on the other hand I wanted to shake her and ask why she didn't just run because her mother and Jax were just using her. But I also knew that Cass had a boatload of emotional issues that kept her where she was.

Then she met Tucker.

Tucker was in a similar situation as Cass' but he was saved from that kind of life by the foster care system and eventually his adoptive mother. Somehow he was able to seen beneath the tough exterior that Cass had around her to who she truly was. He knew she was incredibly strong, but also knew that she needed someone who would protect and and always be there for her. Even when she pushed him away or ran from him, he never really gave up on her. He would give her he space she would need, but would always be there when she reached out to him again. There was never a time when Tucker truly threw in the towel and said Cass wasn't worth it. To him, she was and always would be...despite everything. It's that attitude (and his tattoos and rock star job) that made me love Tucker.

This is another one of those New Adult books that is tough to read at times. It's dark, gritty and again reminds me of how lucky I was to have what I had at that age. But it's worth the read...even if I have to wait until next year to get the next book in the series.

Cass has had a hard life, and reading about it made me depressed. This poor girl just wanted to be able to work hard, and get away from her terrible roots. To get away from her druggie mother, boyfriend, and awful trailer. I loved that Tucker walked into her life, and immediately recognized her as a kindred spirit. Poor Cass was just surviving, and there was no one helping her do that either. I loved that Larry, the cook at the diner, tried to do what he could for Cass. He would make her breakfast or lunch, and try to give her advice. It was so sweet, and you could tell that he really cared about her even under the gruff exterior. I hated Jax, but I understood why Cass stayed with him, at least at first. I can understand clinging to that hope that the person you once knew, would come back. However, they never do and after she met Tucker and knew she was falling for him, I wanted Cass to stand up for herself and kick Jax to the curb. It truly shocked me when Jax lost his ever-loving mind, I don’t have any experience with drug addicts so it definitely shocked me. I don’t want to give anything away, but suffice it to say the last 100 pages of this novel had every twist and turn imaginable.
I loved this story, and my emotions were rollercoasting all over the place for the entire novel. The only reason that I give this book 4 stars instead of 5 stars is because the ending just felt like it came too fast. Most of the book we spent going back and forth between Cass and Tucker and then it just felt like every terrible thing happened in the last 100 pages. I would’ve liked to see it spread out a little more. I definitely wouldn’t change any of the things that happened just a little more spacing, downtime, and more character development between those scenes. Overall though it was a fantastic book and it sucked me in. I can’t wait for White Trash Damaged!

I didn't really see the chemistry for Cass and Tucker. It had the elements for a white trash story though... Trailer...check. Dead end job...check. Druggie mom and boyfriend...check.check. Boyfriend beats her..check. The writing style was choppy and didn't flow real great, the story was good until she found out he was in a band. A successful band too. Before that she didn't want anything to do with him and then suddenly he's in a band and she's dropping panty. How is that different? Not a fan of this one.

This review is of the (currently) unpublished expanded edition.

I’ve found that the more I enjoy a book, the harder it is for me to review. I might have mentioned this once (or twice) before. White Trash Beautiful is no exception. I really liked this book.

Mummert’s characters really come to life. Out of all of the characters I’ve read about recently, Cass has to be at the top of my favorites list. I liked that even though her life wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies, she wasn’t willing to lie down and accept it. She was working and fighting for a better life for her and her mother. While I didn’t like Jax, his character was done wonderfully. Another character that I enjoyed, though I didn’t at first, was Larry. One character that I didn’t connect with very much, though, was Tucker. Even though he’s a main character, I didn’t feel much of anything for him. While I absolutely loved that he wanted to protect and care for Cass, I didn’t see how he fell in love with her. There wasn’t ever a defining moment. It felt weird for me.

The story was pretty good. The pacing was nice up until the last few chapters. The ending felt very rushed. Since it’s the first book in the trilogy, I don’t understand why the ending was so rushed. I believe it would have made more sense to keep up the initial smooth pacing and either make the book longer or just continue the story on in the second book. Other than the rushed ending, I liked the story and I cannot wait for the second book in the trilogy.

Was missing something in this book but, an overall okay book for the NA genre. Typical cliche characters and a mix of the same old plot soup.

I am surprised to like White Trash Beautiful more than I expected. I was expecting cheesy, OTT ridiculous NA romance. But Miss Mummert does not disappoint me. This is my first read by her and she definitely restoring my taste on NA romance.

White Trash Beautiful is told from Cass's POV. She endured a traumatic, heart breaking environment for a young woman to grow up with. Her father left her and she picked up a wrong kind of boyfriend. Miss Mummert done a good job bringing the story alive. Thanks God she did not overdue it with a OTT dramatic twist/ plot. I like the pace, I like the writing and I like the characters. Although I want a bit more from Tucker's POV.

Overall this is a very good book. Enjoyable.

There’s a quote that begins the book:

“I’m not naïve. I know I don’t get the happily ever after. My knight in shining armor took the highway detour around this godforsaken shit hole. I’ve made peace with that. That doesn’t mean I’m going to lie down like a doormat and let every cocky prick in the trailer park have his way with me.”

This book was really hard for me. First off, there’s the title: White Trash Beautiful. It really just rubs me the wrong way and I can’t really put my finger on why. I’m pretty sure it has to do with the ‘White Trash’ part. But I shook that feeling off and went ahead with the story.

White Trash Beautiful follows Cass, a girl stuck in a life she can’t get out of. She works as a waitress at a local diner during the day and at night she goes home to her trailer where her boyfriend and mother live. Cass is the sole source of income for this family. Jackson, her boyfriend, is an abusive druggie and her mother is an addict. Both rely heavily on Cass to provide for them.

Tucker is the lead singer of an up and coming band. While on tour, Tucker comes through Cass’s town and ends up at her diner. Sparks fly between them almost instantly and the two become connected, finding different ways to be with each other.

Going back to the opening quote, all Cass does through the entire book is lie down like a doormat and let people have their way with her. Her boyfriend beats her almost on a daily basis, rapes her when he wants sex, takes her money to buy drugs, basically controls her life. And her mother is no better. But instead of getting out, she stays. She lets them control her and belittle her. Instead of leaving for the better world that she wants, she complains. Constantly. Every page was filled with her whining about how horrible her life is and how she’ll never get out.

Enter Tucker, who I initially liked. He really wanted to be the knight in shining armor. He was sweet and kind. He saw how Cass was treated and believed that she deserved more (although I honestly couldn’t see why). He showed her there was more to life than where she was now. But no matter how much he tried to help, she kept going back to Jackson and her mother. Even after she sleeps with Tucker.

And this is where I lost respect for both of them.

Please break up with your boyfriend before sleeping with another man. Shame on you both.

After this, I pretty much gave up on the book. Everything that followed after that read like a horribly predictable soap opera. From Jackson finding out, to the “dramatic” way that Cass is forced to leave – predictable. The way the author deals with Cass having to leave her mother – WTF? And the ending…

Completely unbelievable and unrealistic. I do not recommend this pity party.

I received an e-copy of this novel from the publisher for my honest opinion and review via Netgalley.
