Oh, this was a fantastic book! Loved the world, and these characters and their story trying to heal their loved ones! So great! Need to read more!

This was much better than I thought! The premise seemed kind of tired, but I found myself immersed quickly. It's a story about letting go and finding peace after death, both from the side of the living and from those who have passed on. It's a thoughtful premise, but along with it are some genuinely creepy stakes as poltergeists try to learn how to possess living bodies permanently.

I was also really pleased that there was a good explanation for why Callie was "different" as a ghost- too often in these paranormal books the main character is special or has different powers for no reason, or with a thin explanation tacked on. The mystery behind why Callie's energy is stronger and why she can do certain things that other ghosts can't IS explained, an the ending is a great twist that guarantees a sequel.

After seeing in another synopsis that this would be reminiscent of Ghost (the movie), I was really excited for this one. And upon further reading of that same synopsis, I saw that it was "perfect for fans of If I Stay by Gayle Forman" and I became really, REALLY excited for it. But unfortunately when I started reading it, I just couldn't get into it. This one was just a big disappoint for me.
One reason I didn't like it was it just seemed to be way too young to be YA. I understand that she was dead, but really, your snarkiness just made it seem stupid. I quit laughing at what you were saying and just started rolling my eyes in the first 10%. It's really unfortunate because I don't remember her other novel being like that.
But then there is the plot. I was really upset because I was looking for something completely different and this is not what I got. It was basically all about how she was so in love with her boyfriend from 1-7%, then how she died at 8%, and then 8-40% was just about the good and evil in the Prism. And it got boring rather quickly. I stopped at 40% and just skimmed the rest of the way. I just needed to know what it was that her boyfriend was keeping from her to see if my suspicions were correct, but that's all that I really cared about lol
I think I'm most disappointed because I loved her first novel and I was expecting this to be more like the movie and book that I loved. I guess that's why you never trust anything that says "based on,' or "for fans of," or "like ______ meets _____." You're more than likely always going to end up disappointed smh

This was... an interesting read. Callie dies at the age of 16 in a car wreck and ends up in a place called Prism, in which ghosts "live" while they haunt their loved ones (aka help them find peace with their deaths). Each ghost is given a Guide, and Callie ends up with Thatcher. She struggles with her desire to stay in touch with her loved ones, even though letting go is the best way to move on to Solus.

Of course Callie doesn't do what Thatcher tells her to do. She gets caught up with a group of ghosts who completed their haunting but never moved on (we later find out that they're actually
Spoilerpoltergeists
), and they tell her what she wants to hear, etc. I could tell that they were going to be bad from the get-go, but Callie is just like "wow, I want to be their friend!" That STRESSED ME OUT. You know when a character is obviously doing the wrong thing (well, obvious to everyone but themselves) and you just know terrible things are going to happen because of it? Granted, this was a very quick read because I just had to keep reading, but it was also a VERY nervous read for me.

I love Thatcher (I mean come on, we're supposed to love him), and I just want to hug him. Callie's not terrible - she just makes really rash decisions, but that's part of her personality, so I'll let it slide. It's just difficult to read a book in first person when your personality is the complete opposite of the main character. The premise of the book is really interesting and original, and I did like that. I felt completely wrecked at the end of the book, and even though I feel like I'm in for more heartbreak and stressful reading, I'm going to try to find the sequel so I can finish the series and know what happens.
