I’m officially done with the Carolina Reapers series :( I feel even sadder because that means I’m finished with a whole world of the sharks turned reapers and their family. This was such a great series and book! I loved everything I read and I think Maxim and Evie are the sweetest couple. I love that Evie had come out of her shell with Maxim and really lived, with him and just sprouted. And I’m obsessed with her being Maxim’s reason he fell in love with hockey again like ugh just so cute and sweet. My favorite part I think was when he took the winning shot and then immediately ran and hugged Sterling

I’ve been waiting for Maxim’s story since his character was introduced in the series. The book did not disappoint.

this wasn’t quite what i wanted it to be. it’s comparatively flat to some of the other hockey romances that i’ve read, filled with more cliches and less engaging of a plot. oh well

Alright, so after REALLY pulling teeth to finish the last two books before this one, Maxim was a breath of fresh air. This was also the book that had me starting this series because I stumbled upon ✨ that ✨scene on Tik Tok! So, I was actually very excited for Maxim and I'm glad my excitement was well placed.

Evie wasn't the love sick "I'll do anything for him" girl chasing the guy with her tail between her legs. Yes, she had her moments of idiocy but she was human, and I love how the author incorporated her photography classes into the storyline. There were moments where she acted out of "oh he's been my crush since I was 8" and others where she was mature, hard headed and determined. I don't think anyone will beat Persephone, Langley and London, but Evie wasn't bad.

My favourite part of this whole book? Watching Sterling and Maxim rekindle their bromance and brother relationship despite spending their entire lives hating each other. This story, honestly, was about family. It was about two people getting over their past and reshaping their future to what they want. I mean, yes it was a romance, so there was a forced proximity, my sister's best friend plot line happening, but I found myself loving the conversations and character development between Sterling and Maxim.

I think that the drama and fall out Maxim and Evie had was a little out of pocket, given the fact that Evie knows what happens to celebrities in the limelight having been in Maxim's life since he became an NHL star. Yes, this one was directly aimed at you, and you like to be behind the camera instead of in front, but girly, he told you, and even his sister told you - why you acting out? Honestly, I think she got scared that what she had with Maxim was real.

And spoiler alert, when they won and Maxim immediately went to hug Sterling? My heart broke and I was in tears. And when Maxim stood up to his abusive dad with grace, dignity and lack of irrational anger? That was such an amazing point of maturity and growth in Maxim that I was so glad we got. Because it shows that we are not our parents, despite us being raised by our parents.

I think this was a good ending to the series, everything wrapped up so nicely and it was so freaking cute. I'm happy this book actually ended up holding it's own... I was getting kinda nervous with the last two books and I was really excited for this one.

Well, time to backtrack and read Seattle Sharks :P
