I wanted to like this book so much more than I did. First of all, no dialogue punctuation is a choice and, in this instance, it was the wrong one. It was incredibly confusing at times, and don’t even get me started on all the random, unnecessary commas? The disjointed writing and switching POVs was jarring, too. And while the writing could often be beautiful and atmospheric, it also felt stilted and wrong at other times. I think this novel had an identity crisis and didn’t know if it was a romance or litfic. While sweet and tender, the characters kept making dumb choices that more infuriating than “real.”

All in all, toward the end of the book, I found myself just wanting it to be over.
